We specialize in delivering individualized early intervention programs for children 18 months to 6 years of age, who have a broad range of special needs. Our unique program is open to typically developing children as well. This inclusive environment creates learning opportunities rarely found elsewhere

Having an intellectual disability often presents difficulties in accessing the appropriate services and supports. Advocating is a skill that we will help you to develop, which will empower you to make things happen for yourself or your family member.

Finding your way through the education, medical or social services systems can be a daunting task. Whether you are a person with an intellectual disability or a family member, we can guide you to find the supports or services you require.

Who We Are

The Halifax Association for Community Living (HACL) is a grass roots, family-based, charitable organization serving children, youth and adults with intellectual disabilities as well as offering support to their families in the Halifax Regional Municipality. We are governed by a board of 12 volunteers. The Association is managed by an Executive Director and our programs are delivered by paid professionals and paraprofessionals. Our funding comes through a variety of streams including grants from the Department of Community Services and foundations, donations as well as fundraising efforts.
